Transgriot is a pretty often mentioned site for trans* people. This Tuesday though they had an anti-demisexual article titled “Dear Demi Sexual, Trans Ethnic,Trans Abled, Trans Fat and Other Fakers”.
Ummmmm, what on earth does demisexuality have to do with transethnicity and transablism? I’m already seeing the cracks in this person’s argument.
It begins with “Guest Post From Renee of Womanist Musings that I’m definitely going to have to piggyback on. But first I need to get over my pissivity for these fools appropriation of the language of the trans community and trans human rights movement to fight our very real societal oppression”, so it’s not made by the person who blogs on the site but they do agree on it.
Transethnicity has no biological basis. Transablism either. I’d call people who use those labels “harmless attention-seekers”, but I realize that they could be harmful by perpetuating negative notions about transgendered people (just by use of the word “trans”). So yes, I would say transethnicity and transablism are both false AND potentially-harmful identities for a person to have.
ON THE OTHER HAND…
To quote the Demisexual portion:
As for you demi-sexuals, stop posting shit about coming out as demi-sexual to your parents. Do you really believe in a heteronormative world that your folks are going to have a fucking conniption because you prescribe to the most vanilla version of sexuality ever? Really? You are not oppressed because you claim to only be sexually attracted to people you have a romantic relationship with. What you are is vanilla and I don’t recall ever seeing an article about a demi-sexual being bashed for being demi, or asked to vacate a public space, criminalized etc,.
Demisexuality is on the asexual spectrum, so it’s probably safe to say that it has some biological basis. Like any other orientation. And while I will agree that demisexual people who are HETEROROMANTIC will probably have an easy time passing as heterosexual, this article totally ignores the fact that some demisexual people experience same-sex attraction. Some demis experience nothing BUT same-sex attraction, others are attracted to two or more genders. Why is this such a difficult concept for critics to comprehend?
So yeah. Life is probably easy for a heteroromantic demisexual. But what about a homoromantic demisexual? If “heteroromantic demisexuality” is thought of as being straight, “homoromantic demisexuality” is going to be considered, by the wider public, as being gay. Pan- or biromantic demisexuality is going to be thought of as pan- or bisexuality. A lot of good that heteronormative privilege is going to do in those cases.
—My roommates friend after she found out I am asexual. I was so close to slapping her.
You should have. That’s a massively douchey thing for a person to say, on so many levels. (Along with the creepy corrective-rape overtones and huge ego it takes to make a statement like that, there’s the obnoxious assumption that asexual people are “uncorrupted” or “pure” - however you want to define that.)
Name:Washington D.C. Human Name: Micheal T. Jones Age(Physically): around 16 or 17 Birthday: July 16, 1790 Gender: Male Hair Color: Blonde Eye Color: Green Height: 5’7 1/2
Personality and Interests Micheal is not the least bit obnoxious as his older brother or hyper, he is very fun-loving but also gets the job done. He is very social and make friends very easily, some of his best friends being Japan, Denmark, Australia. He loves to solve any kind of problem whether it be on a school subject or a world conflict. Unlike America, D.C. is more realistic but does believe in aliens.
Just like his bro, Micheal loves to play video games. He’ll play any kind of video game really. He also loves to watch movies and doesn’t freak out like America does when watching a movie about the supernatrual, unless it’s a really creepy one he’ll get paranoid after watching the movie. Also he plays sports, his favorite being baseball and has that kind of abnormal strength like America does.
Trivia He is the younger brother of America and Canada, as well brother of the US states. His birthday is the day United States Congress approved of Washington D.C. of becoming the national capital. His middle name is Thomas. He doesn’t like England that much because of the whole buring down the capital during the War of 1812.
If you’reall wondering why he looks so much like America is because I think the capitals should a least look a little like they’re country.
I only own this OC, not the anime he is based off from.
No, no, no, double fuck no the capital shouldn’t look like the country! Especially when this capital is majority AFRICAN AMERICAN! And right now, it’s a whole bunch of other ethnicities that should be mixed into it as well. NO DC SHOULD NOT LOOK LIKE ALFRED, NOR SHOULD IT BE WHITEWASHED!
If they cared to do research on this city, then they would’ve known this. GOD this is like a fucking pet peeve of mine; DC IS NOT AN ALFRED CLONE!
^THIS THIS THIS.
Sometimes I wonder if people even research population demographics before making their personifications… -__-
like I have no idea who I am… am I a lesbian who loves sex? or am I an asexual straight woman who does not want sex… because I can picture myself being in a sexual relationship with a woman, but I can’t picture myself in a sexual relationship with a man. I dunno, but I could see myself maybe cuddling with a guy or something sometimes… it depends on the guy.
what do I say? hello, my name is mik and I’m bisexual who’s only sexually attracted to women but asexual when it comes to men? that just doesn’t sound right I don’t know what I’m doing
if anyone has any wisdom I’d really appreciate it.
You could be a biromantic lesbian, since it sounds like you’re only sexually attracted to women, but are perhaps romantically interested in men as well as women. It’s a strange idea for people who aren’t familiar with it, but sexual orientation and romantic orientation are often times “mismatched”.
AVEN has a good article on different forms of attraction that may be helpful to you.
The March 8, 2011 episode of Glee appears to poke fun at those who hold “outdated” attitudes towards sex, especially those who support abstinence-only education and those who choose to be celibate. In doing this, Glee capitalized on stereotypes about asexuals, most probably without ever being aware that any such people exist.
